A longtime friend of the boys who has rarely ever spoken, most will easily recognize Jason for the fourth grader's inexplicably receding hairline and balding haircut. Often lending a hand when the boys and their extended friendship circles are screwing around, whether it's participating in sports or getting lost in a fantasy role-playing game, Jason has always been a playful and supportive friend, especially to Craig and Those Guys. Known for his love of sports, he plays basketball and football for the school's the South Park Cows. Though friendly and outgoing, he is noticeably quiet, especially in the presence of his father, Bob White, who has frequently protested his family's treatment in the town.

Death

While Randy Marsh was being held in County Jail on charges of terrorism for setting off bombs in the backyards of several marijuana home growers in town, the other boys, including Jason, Cartman, Kyle, Kenny, Butters, Craig, Clyde, Tolkien, Tweek, Dogpoo, Kevin and Curly were playing a football game at the Neighborhood Park, with Cartman having the ball. After Jason repeatedly insisted he was 'open' to recieve it despite Cartman asserting he couldn't catch, he chased the football into the street and was hit and ran over by a police vehicle.

His funeral was held the next day, where he was euologized by Father Maxi and his father, Bob White, and was also attended by Mrs. White, Crystal White, and Roger Donovan. They would find the time to move on though, soon adopting a young child named Alejandro.

Personality and Traits

Playfulness

Jason was known for his playful nature among the townspeople, and well-liked among his classmates. He was a member of both the South Park Cows' basketball team as well as the football team, and had a reputation for enjoying playing sports in his free time as well, often meeting classmates at the park to play football. He also played in many of their role-playing games, dedicating himself to the role of the eleven shopkeep as well as playing along under even Cartman's authority in the Texans vs. Mexicans game. At his funeral, Father Maxi observed it was his playful nature with sports that lead to his untimely death.

Athleticism

As mentioned above, he was a member of both the South Park Cows' basketball team as well as the football team and often seen playing football with other students, suggesting that Jason was highly athletic, as only two other students played for both teams. He also expressed once that a football game would be less fun to watch if knowing the outcome in advance. He was singled out by Father Maxi for his interest in sports as well. Cartman observed that in his opinion Jason "couldn't catch", but seemed to be avoiding blame for Jason's death.

Design and Outfits

Jason was a mostly average fourth grader, with long dark brown hair, sideburns over his small but noticeable ears, and a receding hairline that exposed most of his forehead. He wore a bright purple jacket with a darker collar, and fairly typical blue pants. According to Wendy Testaburger, he had noticeable freckles.

Costumes

While participating in the kids' role-playing games, Jason played a Border Patrol agent under Sheriff Eric Cartman, as well as one of the High Elf King's most loyal elven warriors and the proprietor of their main shop, where he frequently boasted of the elves' fine works.

Family

Little is known about Jason's relationship with his family as it was never explored while he was alive in either of the family's appearances. When Bob White speaks for the family in favor of the President's policies, his children both follow him around but do not address anything he says, appearing quiet and withdrawn. Jason's strict parents seemed to see him as a well-behaved child, as his crying mother remarked that he never used his phone after their cut-off time, nor tried to call long-distance. His relationship with his sister was never so much as hinted at.

Bob's euology for his son focused upon the challenges he felt the family faced, as well as the lack of attention and marijuana access the family faced in the wake of his death, while his mother cried extensively. They both appeared genuinely unsettled at first by his passing, but his father seemed largely over it after adopting again. After Jason's passing, Bob was seen hitting his new adoptive son, Alejandro White, suggesting Jason may have been the victim of similar abuse, explaining his quiet and withdrawn nature.

Love Interest

When the girls decided to break up with the boys en masse after weeks of trolling by an anonymous individual on the school message board, blonde classmate Emily was seen breaking up with a boy who strongly resembled Jason, although he appeared to be wearing a hairpiece.

Close Friends

Jason's closest friend was likely Tweek Tweak, whom he was seen with on multiple occasions, most notably when they were invited together to a party at Bebe Stevens' home. They often appeared alongside Craig and Those Guys together, although Jason appeared less often without him. Tweek was noticeably more upset with Jason's death than their other classmates. He also may have been friendly with Tolkien outside the group, as they were both on the same Cows basketball team together.

He seemed to have an odd friendship with Eric Cartman, who referred to them as "pretty" close after Jason's death, with Jason among the boys who helped him during the Jersey invasion effort to trap Kyle at the nearby Sizzler, alongside Dogpoo Petuski, both of which were later invited to the sleepover party Cartman's House, where he and Dogpoo played Border Patrol agents for Cartman in Texas vs. Mexicans. Both were also present when he died.

Though he very occasionally sat with Craig's friends and the main boys, he was usually seen sitting elsewhere with Scott Malkinson, Daniel Tanner, Louis and some unknown boys. In addition to the previously mentioned characters, he was also sometimes seen in the background with Kevin Stoley, such as in the episode "Marjorine" and his final appearance.

Classmates

The below children were friendly with Jason as a classmate but were not known to have interacted with him personally outside larger social gatherings.

Affiliations

As mentioned above, Jason was for some time an active member of Craig and Those Guys, most notably during the metrosexual fad when he was one of their more vocal members, and still hung around with them until roughly the thirteenth season. He was also part of the fantasy role-playing group for The Fellowship of the Lord of the Rings.

He was also a key member of the Cows Basketball Players team, reflecting his love of sports, and a secondary member of the football and sarcastaball team as well.

Former Residence

Though the Whites have been here since the beginning, their residence was only seen once before Jason's passing and he was never seen there with his family.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

When visiting the Elven Kingdom in the land of Larnion during the game, Jason has been appointed to act as the official shopkeeper for the elves, proudly proclaiming that they craft "the finest shit" in all the land and allowing the player access to elven weapons. Upon making any purchase, he will add the player as a friend on Facebook.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

During the game's storyline, Jason can be located at any time inside the Raisins restaurant, where he proclaims he will only take a selfie with the player if they are a brutalist, or have at least one attack from this class. He will then follow the player on Coonstagram when a selfie is attained and talk about how he believes one of the Raisins Girls is his girlfriend.

Behind the Scenes

An early design for Jason appeared in the original, unaired version of "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe", and was drawn based on Matt and Trey's friend Jason McHugh, who appeared in and produced Cannibal! The Musical and Orgazmo. His receding hairline, unusual for a child character, is borrowed from McHugh's actual appearance.

The character did not reappear fully until season 6's "Professor Chaos", where he is seen and mentioned as one of the candidates to replace Kenny McCormick as the boys' fourth friend, beating out half of the other candidates to make it to the second round, and began appearing in the background, but did not make a speaking appearance until season 7's "South Park is Gay!".

In season 21's "Splatty Tomato", the White family was introduced and revealed to be Jason's parents, proclaiming they had been around 'since the beginning' and ignored, just as he was. Jason appeared alongside them but received no dialogue, but Trey expressed excitement in the commentary at having finally found something to do with him by putting him there, referencing the character's longevity. He was killed off in his next appearance.

Jason's voice was provided in six episodes total by series co-creator Trey Parker.

Fan Reactions

Jason's lack of defined personal characteristics despite his more frequent references and distinctive appearance, and general lack of focus even compared to other secondary children, made him a joking target among fans, suggesting that he was eager to recieve attention and craves the spotlight. This was reflected in his official 'DNA overview' which included reference to Jason's desire for a chance to shine, even if only once.

His moment may have come too late as he was killed off just a few episodes later in "Season Finale", a decision which recieved a mixed to negative reaction among South Park fans, with many expressing disappointment on social media to see the character killed off and some for his limited role in the storyline. Social media chatter among fans focused heavily on his passing, and multiple posts on Tumblr received hundreds of notes referencing his death, including memorials reflecting on his role in the show and an astute observation that "any ancillary character could be killed off at any point and that’s kind of unsettling".

Bonus Factoids

• Jason made an unusual number of prominent appearances without receiving dialogue, clocking in with at least five episodes where he was referred to or part of the plot without speaking; thus why he is often described as quiet.
  • Out of his six speaking appearances, in both "Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina" and "Imaginationland", his only line is to utter "Wow" in reaction to something important the main boys have done.
• In all of the show's seasons, Jason only once appeared in the main characters' classroom, in season 7's "South Park is Gay!"; he has otherwise appeared to be in a separate, unseen fourth grade classroom.
